Tammy Royo Sczepanski - School Librarian

Tammy Royo Sczepanski collaborates with teachers to assess student information literacy and technology skills and then integrates lessons into the common core curriculum. Mrs. Sczepanski is a charter staff member of HSES, prior to this assignment she was the library media specialist at Running Brook Elementary in Columbia, Maryland and then at Bollman Bridge Elementary in Savage, Maryland. She continually analyzes and builds a resource collection to meet curriculum, teacher, and student information and literacy needs. Tammy remains committed to preparing her students to excel in the 21st century through Information Literacy as the foundation of her program while incorporating Arts Integration, Gaming Inclusion, Cultural Proficiency, and maintaining a makerspace and free book exchange in our school library media center. Tammy has been recognized by the Maryland Association of School Librarians as having an exemplary library media program. She was also recognized by the Maryland State Senate as an outstanding educator. Mrs. Sczepanski was a Howard County Public Schools nominee for the Maryland Teacher of the Year and also a HCPSS nominee for the Maryland Society of Educational Technology as a Technology Educator. Her most recent honor was having the HSES yearbook dedicated to her years of service at HSES. In her spare time Tammy enjoys making homemade chocolate with her husband Johnnie, crafting, reading, gardening, and traveling especially visiting Disney World with her family.
Marcy Spence - School Librarian -
Marcy Spence also collaborates with teachers to assess student information literacy and technology skills and integrate lessons into the common core curriculum. This is Mrs. Spence’s 18th year teaching, she has taught in four states ranging from coast to coast and north to south but her favorite school district is Howard County where she has been a Media Specialist at Waterloo, Phelps Luck, Forest Ridge, Gorman Crossing, and now she is lucky to call Hollifield Station home. Mrs. Spence can’t wait to engage students in learning in a variety of lessons using AASL Standards and incorporating the Arts, Gaming, and Cultural Proficiency, while maintaining a makerspace and free book exchange in HSES’s Media Center. At home, Mrs. Spence enjoys spending quality time with her husband, two daughters, and 5 fur babies (3 dogs and 2 cats). Mrs. Spence is an active member of her church and loves giving hugs as part of the Welcome Team for attendees. She is an avid gym fan who also loves to spend many hours hiking in Patapsco State Park.
Katherine Han - Library Media Paraeducator
Katherine Han is the library media para-eduactor with organizational skills and has established a good relationship with the staff and students at Hollifield Station. This is Mrs. Han's 2nd year as the library media para-eduactor at Hollifield Station. Mrs. Han is willing to help the students and staff that come in to the library media. Mrs. Han works with the 2 library media specialists to meet the needs of all students and staff. Prior to this she was a dedicated ESOL paraeduactor for 17 years and was a HSES nominee for the Distinguished Assistant in 2006. Mrs. Han spends quality time with her husband, one daughter, two sons, one son in law, one daughter in law and two beautiful granddaughters and dog-Sam. Mrs. Han enjoys cooking, gardening, reading, shopping, walking and traveling with her husband, David.
